Question: Everyone knows that exercise is important. Nevertheless, it's hard
to get the body and mind to agree. Most people try working out, but can't stick to it.
'How can I get motivated to stay in shape?' they ask.
Answer: Adjusting approach is a key to staying motivated. Too many people
see success as a straight line; a one-way road stretching between them and their goals.
When that single approach doesn't work, they give up.
With some goals, such as carving eagles out of tree trunks (I saw one of these two
weeks ago), the loss is regrettable. When the goal is to stay healthy, the loss is
a bit worse than regrettable. So to save you from giving up on any health goals
you've set (or trunk carving), I have a simple idea to suggest.
If you don't like to run, ride a bike. If you don't like to ride a bike, jump rope.
If you don't like rope, jump up and down.
If these sound mind numbing, play basketball or soccer. Swim.
Your friend's approach to keeping healthy may not work for you, but that doesn't
mean the game is over. Put it in your head that you are going to find a way to stay
healthy. You simply need to find that way.
