Drips of Diamonds
One idea can change everything. But what if you forget that one grand idea? What if
you lose the spec of thought in the dusty sills of your brain?
It happens every day. We hear a hundred things and forget ninety-nine. I'm sure you've
seen the statistics--or did you forget them? Within three hours to three days we forget
85 percent of what we learn. 85 percent! Imagine all the gems tumbling out of your
ears and onto the floor.
Who knows what the idea forgotten last week could have done for you today?
I know how much one tip can do, as do thousands upon thousands of others. Most
breakthroughs can trace their exciting lives back to a germ of a thought. Science is
where it is today because of the countless nuggets plopping between scientists' ears.
The same can be said of art, music, literature, your neighbor's new deck, and the
socks on your feet. Everything you see owes its life to an idea.
My grand finale of this tirade is simple: don't lose your shining diamonds of thought.
You have to care for them as you would an engagement ring. They are priceless and need
careful protection.
Method is a matter of personal choice. You can write things down in a notebook, talk
into a recording device, or type your thoughts into a laptop.
I just found a valuable tool online for keeping my thoughts and ideas alive. It's
called Evernote, a simple system for collecting and keeping everything you see, read,
and hear. If you want to learn more about it, or download the free software, visit
www.Evernote.com.
That's the wrap on safeguarding your glistening specs of thought from the overcrowded
attic of your mind. When you have a good idea, never let it die.
