Simple Tips to Get Motivated at Work

A few years ago I was listening to a program while driving to work. I can still remember how Jay Abraham referred to his old jobs. (If you're unfamiliar, he's the bearded business guru who could turn a lemonade stand into a multi-national, multi- million dollar enterprise--with a franchise in the neighboring county.)

He was asked about the work experience that had turned his brain into a business machine. At one point he said, "I made a huge profit from all of them."

He caught my attention with that one. Profit? Most people think in terms of a paycheck, but not profit. The idea intrigued me.

From his perspective, he was president of Jay Abraham Inc long before he owned his first company. Wherever hired, he was bringing in his corporation to help his client succeed. He was a consultant, not an employee.

It was a simple twist that blossomed into stellar results.

Because Abraham looked at his jobs through the lens of self-employment, he was constantly driven to improve and excel. His mind churned out idea after idea; his brain never stopped scanning the scene for slivers of opportunity. After all, it was his company he was helping.
