Getting Everyone on Board
Communication is key to a healthy, thriving organization. Yours is no
different. Regardless of the size or stature of your workforce, there
must be a clear and constant stream of communication between all employees
and their supervisors.
The problem with many companies today is a lack of one vision, one
direction. In one business you may find that the employees each
have their own direction they are following and it most likely
won't match up with management's.
When you have a business being pulled in many different directions,
only problems, frustration, and failure can result. But there is
a simply and easy way to escape this trap. Communicate.
Simply talking isn't enough. Your people must see the picture you have
in your mind. You must find ways, many different ways, to get them on
board, to help them see the future as you see it. You could:
- Gather your employees together for a Vision speech
- Post major goals or objectives around the office and work areas
- Communicate the company's aim through a clearly defined mission statement
- Send weekly memos keeping people on track
- Lead by example - believe in what you say, and act the part
These are just a few of the ways you can clearly communicate your vision
to the people who work for you. Your employees are looking for a leader.
They respect and respond to a manager or CEO who knows where he and
his company is heading, and gets the workers on board with him for
the ride.
The other, and equally important, side of this equation is maintaining that
vision and direction. It is on your shoulders to keep your people heading
forward, together. If stragglers appear, you must attend to them. Do what
is necessary to keep the group together.
With everyone 'on board' you will find that the destinations you set for
your team will be met with speed, precision, and success.
